Moderate dietary weight loss reduces myocardial triglycerides in obese women
Methods Non diabetic overweight and obese women were submitted to a six months hypocaloric diet with either fat or carbohydrate restriction. Cardiac structure and function was assessed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and MTG content by proton spectroscopy (MRS) in 35 subjects at baseline and follow-up. Anthropometric and metabolic parameters as well as cardio-respiratory fitness were measured.
متن کاملWeight loss in obesity reduces epicardial fat thickness; so what?
THE PHYSIOLOGICAL ROLES of human epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) are not well defined because this strategically located white adipose tissue (WAT) depot is difficult to access and study, and most of the information about it comes from humans with severe cardiac diseases undergoing open heart surgery or by implication from animal experiments (9, 10). Hypothetically, its functions include lipid ...
متن کاملIncreased Dietary Protein Promotes Fat Loss and Reduces Loss of Lean Body Mass During Weight Loss in Cats
An important goal in the management of obesity is to reduce excess body fat while minimizing the loss of lean tissue. This study evaluated whether increasing dietary protein would increase fat loss and minimize loss of lean body mass in cats during weight loss. Isocaloric diets containing approximately 35% or 45% of energy from protein were fed to achieve weight loss of 1% of body weight per we...
متن کاملStrong theories, burden, and weight
We introduce the notion of the burden of a partial type in a complete first-order theory and call a theory strong if all types have almost finite burden. In a simple theory it is the supremum of the weights of all extensions of the type, and a simple theory is strong if and only if all types have finite weight. A theory without the independence property is strong if and only if it is strongly d...
متن کاملMotivational predictors of weight loss and weight-loss maintenance.
Self-determination theory proposes that behavior change will occur and persist if it is autonomously motivated. Autonomous motivation for a behavior is theorized to be a function both of individual differences in the autonomy orientation from the General Causality Orientations Scale and of the degree of autonomy supportiveness of relevant social contexts. We tested the theory with 128 patients ...
